No. The inner alloy core of each unit will last a lifetime. For example, some units that were installed over 30 years ago are still working without maintenance today and will likely continue for many more years.

After going through the Softerwater Conditioner the minerals that usually cause scale are nano-size crystals in a colloidal suspension – much like minerals in milk are in suspension. These minerals are easily carried through the system and are flushed away without causing any harm to pipes or ground water. Some very fine silt residue may fall out of suspension and be left on a surface, but it is easily wiped away.

There are several factors that can affect the life of the filter, but the overriding factor is the load and type of particles being filtered. With a high particle load will block the filter quicker than water with a lower particle load. We recommend for normal city treated water you change the filter every 12 months. If you are using rain water or ground water with iron you may need to change the filters sooner than this.

We only use 316 stainless steel for our water conditioner and filter housings. The systems have been pressure tested to 400PSIG (27.5 Bar, 2757 KPA).

Our water treatment systems come with excellent instructions for easy installation by your local plumber.

New filters can be purchased directly from The Hard Water Shop. We will send you a reminder two months before the filters need to be changed, so you have time to place an order with us.

No, most showers use 8 to 15 litres a minute; we have designed the unit around these criteria.

No, the inner alloy element is not a sacrificial anode (which means it never wears out) and therefore does not need to be replaced. We still have units working today that were installed over 30 years ago.

No, once installed it does not require any maintenance.

A pool professional is able to do the installation or if you are handy and can follow instructions you can install it yourself.

There are two (2) options.

  1. You can install the unit between the pump and filter.
  2. You can install the unit after the filter.

Always install the unit before the salt chlorinator. Conditioning the water before will allow the chlorinator to work to its full capacity.

There are no moving parts, the alloy core is not sacrificial and the unit does not require electricity or maintenance. We have had systems installed for over 15 years and they have never been replaced.

If water is flowing through the unit it is working.
